Meet the creative person behind
Elizabeth Larsen Knitwear

Hello, I'm Jan, the creative mind behind Elizabeth Larsen Knitwear.

My passion for knitting is deeply rooted in my heritage, allowing me to reconnect with my past and celebrate the joyful memories of knitting alongside my mum. As I am getting older I'm finding that touching on those memories whilst I knit is becoming more frequent and poignant. Elizabeth Larsen Knitwear is my personal brand, showcasing my distinctive style and part of my identity - Named after my maiden name, Larsen, which connects me to my Nordic heritage and personal story.

At the heart of my knitting designs lies a deep belief of the connection between people and the land.  Having lived in rural and remote areas, I draw inspiration from the unique moods and character of each place, translating them into rich colours and subtle textures.  Each piece I create is a reflection of the beauty and spirit of the environment, inviting you to wear a story of nature and community.

My super power is that I can transform a 'piece of string' into something special, with each stitch telling a unique story. Knitting and creativity have been woven into the fabric of my life, thanks to my creative family that cherished handmade artistry.  I launched my original knitwear business in the '80s, then after an extensive break I bought a knitting machine when I turned 50, a milestone that reignited my passion.  Since then, my journey has been one of rediscovery and joy, as I design knitwear that is not only functional but also beautifully crafted, creating timeless staples for your wardrobe.

My passion lies in creating pieces that stand out and reflect individuality. Each item is thoughtfully made to ensure style and comfort. Designed and individually created in Cumbria using quality yarns and wools, many of which are spun in the British Isles.

Mothers Who Make – Elizabeth Larsen Knitwear

interview by Folksy.

"In this interview, we speak to Jan from Elizabeth Larsen Knitwear, whose love of knitting began at her mother’s side and continues to shape her work today. From childhood stitches to machine knitting holidays, and from grief to rediscovered purpose in the Scottish Highlands, Janette shares how craft can carry heritage, resilience and connection – becoming not just something we make, but something that quietly makes us who we are.

Jan’s journey celebrates the beauty of returning to craft at any stage of life, the importance of encouraging creativity in the next generation, and the enduring thread that runs between mothers, daughters and the things they create together."
